Voiceover and gestures for completely blind people

I know a lot of blind people and all of them (without exception) use the iPhone. They claim, that the voiceover and gestures are perfect for them and there is nothing comparable on Android phones.
So even though many don't like how Apple deals with customers, slows their phones and charges horrendous prices, they shy away from possibly cheaper Android phones, because they fear for comfort and ease of use.

Therefore my question:
Is there anything at all, that does, what the iPhone voiceover does? Are any blind persons here in the forum that can give advice?

Any leads, points and advice are greatly appreciated.
